Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny sleepy town. It is the West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is a vast part that stretches from Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel grew up on the island and is frequently called her birthplace. However, she only stayed there for a short time. Brugel became a young woman in Courtice Ontario, just outside Oshawa. In her early years she hoped to become the next big thing in her career, but a sudden expansion of her body made it impossible. An article in the Toronto Star article revealed she's six feet tall, with heels. After I became too big for my male partners I stopped. Brugel was one of many former dancers who turned to acting. The teacher she had at high school was the one who pushed her in the right direction. A teacher suggested that she take part in an audition for the annual school play. She tried out and ended up playing the leading role for the role in Anne of Green Gables. This led to a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program which she graduated with an Associate of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. The career of Brugel spans more than 20 years and she has appeared in 60 different productions, both on big screens and smaller ones. Her most recognizable role was as Rita (pictured beneath) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel made an appearance on only a handful of instances in the initial season of the series The Handmaid's tale. She was the only Canadian member.
